Institute of Government Improvements

Support legislation to appropriate funds for the expansion and renovation of the
Institute of Government in Chapel Hill. (Legislative Goals Committee).

The Institute of Government in Chapel Hill has provided training and education for public
officials -- state and local, elected and appointed -- since the 1930's. In 1995, the General
Assembly appropriated funds to plan for renovation and expansion of the Institute facility
so that it could continue to meet the ever expanding educational needs of public officials
and do so with modem and innovative teaching methods and technology. The design of
the expanded facility calls for a construction cost of $16.1 million. The Association's
Board of Directors voted to support this funding request prior to the 1996 Legislative
Session and the Legislative Goals Committee, meeting in our headquarters building named
after the Institute's founder, endorsed the request as a goal for 1997.

Revised 1 lk25\96
