DOM~C~LIA~Y KOM~ COMMUNITY XDVIHOIY COMMITTER ]~I]rTM~T8 MfD :P~TT~ES __ The Nursing Home Community Advisory Committee (NHCAC) and ~he Domiciliary Home Co~uniCy Advisory Committee (DHCAC) serve the residents of long term care facilities within Che county. The commiCCeeshave legislative authority Co monitor the Residents* Bill of Rights, promote community involvement in --t_he homes, provide public education on long term care issues, and assist residents An grievance resolution. (G.S. 131 D-31, G.S. 131 E-128) --NHCAC me-~ers are required to visit all nursing homes once a quarter as a committee and are to visit individually as often as possible. DHCA¢ members are Co visit Homes for ~e Aged quarterly, Family Care Home annually, and ~_ Homes for Developme~.Cally ~isabled Adu!~s annually as a committee wi%h individual visits being tattled out as often as possible. Business meetings are held on a quarterly basis. Orientation and training will be provided by the North Carolina Division of Aging t/%roughChe Regional Ombudsman Program. -- Committee activities will involve at lest eS=hr hours a month. As part of their initial training, committee members are required =o make -- orientation visit is to each type of facility t. hey serve and to attend an orientation session conducted by the Regional Ombudsman. -- Hembers of these committees must reside within the county thaC the committee serves. They should be willing to attend training sessions and be a~le to effectively communicate wiChChe residents and facility sCaff. Ail commit=es _ =e~ers are appointed by t. he County Commissioners. One-third are Co be nominated by facility administrators. Ail appointees shall serve an initial one year term and then may be reappointed Co a subsequent term of Cwo o= three years for DHCAC and ~ee years for NHCAC~s. Immediate family is defined as mot. her, -- father, sister, brother, child, grandmother and grandfather as well as laws. -- Volunteers serving on these committees are the link between the faciliCie~ and the co--unity. Their work will ultimately result in improving th~ quality of life for home residents. They have the opportunity to meet a wid~ _ variety of people as they carry out committee responsibilities.
