The commiCCeeshave legislative authority <br /> Co monitor the Residents* Bill of Rights, promote community involvement in <br />--t_he homes, provide public education on long term care issues, and assist <br /> residents An grievance resolution. (G.S. 131 D-31, G.S. 131 E-128) <br /> <br />--NHCAC me-~ers are required to visit all nursing homes once a quarter as a <br /> committee and are to visit individually as often as possible. DHCA¢ members <br /> are Co visit Homes for ~e Aged quarterly, Family Care Home annually, and <br /> <br />~_ Homes for Developme~.Cally ~isabled Adu!~s annually as a committee wi%h <br /> individual visits being tattled out as often as possible. Business meetings <br /> are held on a quarterly basis. Orientation and training will be provided by <br /> the North Carolina Division of Aging t/%roughChe Regional Ombudsman Program. <br />-- Committee activities will involve at lest eS=hr hours a month. <br /> <br /> As part of their initial training, committee members are required =o make <br />-- orientation visit is to each type of facility t. hey serve and to attend an <br /> orientation session conducted by the Regional Ombudsman. <br /> <br />-- Hembers of these committees must reside within the county thaC the committee <br /> serves. They should be willing to attend training sessions and be a~le to <br /> effectively communicate wiChChe residents and facility sCaff. Ail appointees shall serve an initial <br /> one year term and then may be reappointed Co a subsequent term of Cwo o= <br /> three years for DHCAC and ~ee years for NHCAC~s. <br /> <br /> The legislation requires thaC "no person or ~ediate family member of <br /> person with a financial interest in a home. served by the <br />-- employee or governing board member of a home served by ~he committee, o: <br /> immediate family m~er of a resident in a home served by the <br /> be a me~er of that committee#. Immediate family is defined as mot. her, <br />-- father, sister, brother, child, grandmother and grandfather as well as <br /> laws. <br /> <br />-- Volunteers serving on these committees are the link between the faciliCie~ <br /> and the co--unity. Their work will ultimately result in improving th~ <br /> quality of life for home residents. They have the opportunity to meet a wid~ <br />_ variety of people as they carry out committee responsibilities.
