[CASA RUS COUNI I

MEMORANDUM

To: John Witherspoon
From: Blair Bennett

Date: January I 1, 1995

Subject: Sales Tax Refund

In a previous memo I had informed you that as a result of information obtained at a Finance
Conference, Cabarrus County would be able to file amended sales tax refunds for previous fiscal
years. We learned from the Department of Revenue that sales tax refunds should be broken down
and reported individually by each county in North Carolina. We had been under the previous
assumption that all refunds should come out of the Cabarrus County allocation. We have since
developed an automated system for tracking sales tax by the county in which the particular vendor
is located. We have met with the Cities of Concord and Kannapolis to share this data so that they
may also benefit as well.

As a result of this, we were able to file amended returns claiming additional refunds for fiscal
years ending 1993 and 1994 of $44,233.83 and $27,897.55 respectively.

Finance Department
707 o Concord, NC 28026-0707 · (704) 788-8104
