Youth Baseball <br /> <br /> The year saw a rapid increase in the number of teams <br />participating in youth baseball. The countywide program <br />offers Coach Pitch for ages 6 - 8, Bambino League Baseball <br />for 9 - 12 and Babe Ruth Baseball. Play begins in April and <br />ends in June, with games at school facilities and city recreation <br />facilities. <br /> <br /> Youth Softball <br /> <br /> Over 50 teams took part in girls youth softball. Leagues <br />are offered for ages 8 - 10, 11 - 12, and 13 - 18. Play begins <br />in April and runs through June, with games at school facilities <br />and city recreation facilities, <br /> <br />Adult Softball <br /> <br /> A total of 59 teamsparticipated in Church, women, open <br />and industrial leagues, offered for anyone over the age of 18. <br />Play begins in April and ends in July for the summer league <br />and the fall league begins in August and ends in October. <br />Games areplayed at Frank Liske Park on weekday evenings. <br /> <br />Tennis Tournaments <br /> <br /> Three tournaments, one in the fall and two in the spring <br />were offered. The Bakers Creek Park Junior tournament in the <br />fall attracted 26 participants in singles competition. Twenty <br />athletes participated in the Spring Classic tournament held in <br />April at Frank Liske Park. The Phidippides Sportcenter Clas- <br />sic brought out 22 players over Memorial Day Weekend at <br />Frank Liske Park. <br /> <br /> Holiday Classic Basketball Tournament <br /> <br /> The Thirteenth annual,Youth Basketball Holiday Clas- <br />sic continued to show record growth, as 150 teams partici- <br />pated. The tournament, one of the largest in the state, was co- <br />sponsored by Concord Parks and Recreation Department, the <br />Cabarrus County Boys and Girls Club, and ~he Cannon <br />Memorial YMCA and took place at ten locations throughout <br />the county. <br /> <br />15 <br /> <br /> <br />
