Little, Director
Cabarrus County Parks, Recreation and Property Maintenance Department

1993-94 Annual Report

On behalf of the Cabarrus County Parks, Recreation and Property Maintenance
Department, I would like to present with pride the Annual Report for Fiscal Year 1993-94.

The Annual Report will highlight the comprehensive parks and recreation pro/~-ams
offered to all residents of Cabarms County by the Department. The role of the Caban'us County
Parks and Recreation Department is to provide an umbrella of serv/ces and to meet the needs for
facilities and programs which are not currently being provided by other agencies. In seeking the
best method for providing comprehensive recreation program services to all residents of Cai)arms
County, the basic approach is to coordinate to the extent possible all program services and to
recognize the important role played by each agency to provide the best potential for service.
Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department has close coordination between Concord
Parks and Recreation Department, Cannon Memorial YMCA, Volunteer Athletic orga~i?~tions,
Cabarrus Arts Council, ARC, Department of Aging, David Murdock Senior Center, and many
other sponsoring groups.

As noted in this annual report, the Recreation Programs and Park Facilities have
experienced a tremendous grov~h in the last several years. An example of this large growth is in
the area of the Youth and Adult Athletic Programs of 4,895 participants with 324 teams in FY
1983-84 compared to 8,899 participants with 660 teams in FY 1993-94. This huge 104%
increase in number of athletic teams shows a good example of the demand of quality recreation
opportunities by the general public.

We wish to express our appreciation for the support and assistance given the Department
by the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners,' Cabarrus County Manager, Cabarrus County
Parks and Recreation Commission and the public in general.

~rk$ and Recreation Oepartment

755 Cacarrus ~,ve~,ue 'JYe,.': ° ? :) 3c~ '97 * Co,ccrcl.
