AREAS FOR STUDY AND ACTION PLANNING <br /> <br />The Steering Committee adopted the following mission statements and goals to guide the <br />three task forces. The Steering Committee felt that each of the three study areas warranted <br />action at the regional level and that the goals listed for each were achievable. <br /> <br />WORKFORCE PREPARATION <br /> <br />MISSION STATEMENT <br /> <br />This region will possess educational opportunities which support strategic economic <br />development initiatives and which prepare workers for the current job market and new <br />types of jobs that will emerge over the next twenty years. <br /> <br />GOALS <br /> <br />Develop strategies to: <br /> <br />Strengthen linkages between schools and the business community in <br />pursuit of goals established through efforts such as the Carolinas' <br />Parmership. <br /> <br />* Provide for retraining of displaced and underemployed workers. <br /> <br />Establish cooperative training efforts among institutions across <br />jurisdictional lines and strengthen communication among all work force <br />training providers in the region to coordinate training on a regional <br />level. <br /> <br />Pursue "distance learning" opportunities (e.g., use of the information <br />superhighway, teleconferences, interactive media) to make the best <br />resources available to students/workees. <br /> <br />INFRASTRUCTURE <br /> <br />MISSION STATEMENT <br /> <br />This region will possess strategies for infrastructure planning, funding and <br />implementation which are environmentally-sound and which promote economies of <br />scale and balanced economic development across the region. <br /> <br /> <br />
