Memorandum
May 8, 1995
Page ~2-

them an idea of how an area will develop and to protect them from the possible
negative effects of intensive non-residential uses.

We have notified all attendees, who signed the attendance sheet, and letter
writers to remind them that a report on the public meeting would be made to the
Planning Commission on April 20th and to the Board of Commissioners on May
15th. In addition to that oral report, an addendum to the Midland Area Plan was
presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission and will be presented to the
Board of Commissioners. The addendum will include a brief summary of
comments received during the meeting and those provided in writing.

The addendum will also include our recommendations for additions and
changes to the Midland Area Plan. Based on the comments of residents, the
current infrastructure, and the existing zoning pattern in the larger area, we will
not be recommending any changes to the future land use map for the Cabarrus
Station area. We will re-emphasize the important role of appropriate rural
businesses, services, and home based businesses as provided by the current
zoning atlas and ordinance. In addition, we will recommend further review of
the existing commercial and industrial zoning along U.S. 601 and N.C. 24/27 to
address the issues of affordabili ,fy and availabili ,ry.
