Brown have announc~ <br />their intention to make a gift of approximately 60 acres of la~d <br />to Cabarr~s County to be used for park and recreational purposes. <br />The land consiats of apprQximately ~8 acres adjoining Central <br />Cabar=us High Schoo~ and another 22 acres of nearby woodlands. <br />Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Director Steve LiCtle was <br /> <br />Personal Trnst Division of Firs= Union National Ban~, which has <br />been working closely w~th the Browns. <br /> <br /> The larger tract adjoins Central Cabarrus High School <br />and is accessed from Central Heights Drive. The cabarru$ Cottnty <br />Parks and Recreation Department's plan for development of the <br />land desi~nates it as a Ca]~arrus County School/Park Site. It Is <br />desired as a com~u~ity and school park, which also will function <br />as a count~ide facil£ty. Proposed facllX=ies include tennis <br />courT. S, youth baseba, lX/sof'cbaX1 field,=, sGc:cer fields, p'icnJ.c <br />~acilitiee, indoor ew/3B~Xncj and aquatic center, play areas, <br />outdoor a~phitheater, h~king an~ nature ~rails, a countywide . <br />con,unity ~ee~Xng center, and outside basketball courts. A t~aL1 <br />syste~ woul~ link this school/park to t~e present Central <br />Cabarrus High School. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Brown has deep ancestral roots in Cabar~us County, <br />and she wants her gist to benm£it future genera~ions of the <br />County's residents. There are not enough park and recrea~ion <br />facili~ie$ in Cabar=us county, and the location of this property <br />makes it ideal ~o help ~t th£s critical need. The Has=er Plan <br />for Cabarrus county Park~ and Recreation recosmends a ~in~mum of <br />seventeen additional parks be developed. Cabarrus County <br />operates only one par~, Frank Llske Park, and jointly operates <br />Bakers Creek Park w~th Rowan County and the City 0£ Kanl~apol~s. <br /> <br /> The Brown pr0~rty is part of 119.07 acres owned <br />jointly by t~e Browns and the W. W. Flows Trust of which <br />Un,on National Bank is Trustee. The property was owned by Mrs. <br />Brown's father, W. W. FlOws, a textile ~anu£acturer, who was <br />prominent in Cabarru~ CoUnty's industrial <br /> <br /> The proposal for the park and gift of the land by the <br />BrOWns has been develo~ over several mon?_h_-~. Jan Beat~y and <br />Joe Hunter o~ the Personal Trus~ Division of First; Union National <br />Bank and Sa~ Davis, attorney for the Browns, have worked on this <br />proposal ~ointly with Steve Little and Central Caba~us High <br />School Principal Joh~ Len~z. Hr. Li~=le, on behalf of <br />citizens of Cabarrue County, expressed his deep appreciation to <br />the Browns for their generosity and public spiritedness. <br /> <br /> <br />
