Mr. Blair Bennett, Finance Director Cabarrus County Cabarrus County Governmental Center Concord, North Carolina 28025 Dear Blair: Pursuant to our telephone conversation last week, I am writing to request two fax machines for use here at the Cabarrus County Courthouse. One fax machine would be located in the District Court Judges' Offices on the third floor and be used by all District Court ~udges and Judge Davis. The other fax machine would be located in the District Attorney's Office on the third floor and be used by his staff. It is my understanding that funding for these machines would come from the Courts budgeL At this time, all three District Court Judges, Judge Davis, and the District Attorney's Staff use the same fax machine which is located in the Clerk of Court's Office. We are often tames unaware that the Clerk's Office may have received a fax addressed to one of our offices unless a member of our staff happens to see it pinned to a bulletin board located in the Clerk's Office. As you can imagine, some of these faxes may contain sensitive material. Mr. Mickey Drye of the Administrative Office of the Courts has informed me that the State is not authorized to connect fax lines paid for by the State to non- state-owned property. He suggested that the County write a letter to the Administrative Office of the Courts indicating its intention to donate the fax machines to the State for use as stated above. In return for donating the machines, it is my understanding that the State will agree to pay for all maintenance on the machines as well as supplies, etc.
