Little, Director
Cabarrus County Parks, Recreation and Property Maintenance Department

Re:

1994-95 Annual Report

On behalf of the Cabarrus County Parks, Recreation and Property Maintenance
Department, I would like to present with pride the Annual Report for Fiscal Year 1994-95.

The Annual Report will highlight the comprehensive parks and recreation programs
offered to all residents of Cabarrus County by the Department. The role of the Cabarrus County
Parks and Recreation Department is to provide an umbrella of services and to meet the needs for
facilities and programs which are not currently being provided by other agencies. In seeking the
best method for providing comprehensive recreation program services to all residents of Cabarrus
County, the basic approach is to coordinate to the extent possible all program services and to
recognize the important role played by each agency to provide the best potential for service.
Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department has close coordination between Concord
Parks and Recreation Departmem, Cannon Memorial YMCA, volunteer athletic organizations,
Cabarrus Arts Council, ARC, Department of Aging, David Murdock Senior Center, and many
other sponsoring groups.

The Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department has experienced a successful
planning year for implementation of new parks/recreation improvement in Cabarrus County. In
May, 1995, the City of Concord conveyed Lake Concord and 340 acres to Cabarrus County for
future park development. In 1994-95, the Cabarms County Parks and Recreation Commission
and staff completed major steps toward the implementation of the school/park concept in
Cabarms County. With $100,000 appropriated by Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners for
the Matching Grant Program, Cabarrus County was able to fund fifteen community recreational
improvement projects. In 1994-95, Cabarms County was able to complete many modifications
and improvements at Bakers Creek Park and Frank Liske Park in an effort to comply with
Americans with Disabilities Act. These include: new playground equipment, new sidewalks,
trails, handrails, etc. In August 1994, the Cabarms County Parks and Recreation Administration
offices relocated to the Cabarrus County Governmental Center.

~'2,'(~ ']nd Recreation Department
5~d"2;:'~":.:' ,"-:.':~ ':,E · P ',2 ~::;x 7',' · ConcotC.
