CABARRUS COUNTY <br /> <br />Job Traininq Activities <br /> <br />Conducted meeting of Centraiina Private Industry Council and Job Training Consortium <br />on October 17. Attended by Cabarrus County PIC members Jim Lunsford, James Polk, <br />and Tonia Black-Gold. The PIC 'voted to change its name to the CENTRALINA <br />WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT BOARD 0NDB). <br /> <br />Conducted JTPA/NCETGP program monitoring of job training activities with the following <br />Cabarrus County contractors: <br /> <br />Kannapolis City Schools - October 12 and 13 <br />N.C. Department of Labor - October 16 and 17 <br />Cabarrus County Department of Social Services - October 30 and 31 <br />Rowan-Cabarrus Community College - October 30 and 31 <br /> <br />Facilitated Cabarrus County Workforce Development One-Stop Career Center <br />Planning Meeting in Concord on October 4. Discussed implementation readiness <br />criteria, Workforce Development Boards, and sought local input. Meeting was attended <br />by representatives from ESC, Rowan-Cabarrus CC, Vocational Rehabilitation, Kannapolis <br />City Schools, Cabarrus County Schools, Dept. of Social Services, N.C. Department of <br />Labor, and Centralina PIC member James Polk. <br /> <br />Participated in Rapid Response team visit (with ESC and State DET officials) at Unifi, Inc. <br />in Mt. Pleasant on October 17. Outlined services available through ESC and the <br />Dislocated Worker program funded through Centralina JTPA monies. <br /> <br />Participated in Cabarrus County DSS Common Application meetings and demonstrations <br />on October 10 and 19. Examined feasibility of use of application in one-stop career <br />center system. <br /> <br />Participated in Cabarrus County Food Stamp Employment and Training Program meeting <br />at ESC-Concord on October 27. Signed agreement for provision of JTPA services (as <br />needed) to Food Stamp program clients. <br /> <br />Attended "Our Region Tomorrow" ~ Workforce Preparation taskforce meeting at Centralina <br />COG on October 11. Finalized comments for draft of taskforce results. <br /> <br />Met with Centralina WDB Chairman Dow Perry on October 5 to discuss One-Stop grant, <br />transition of PIC to a WDB, and finalize agenda for upcoming meeting <br /> <br />Facilitated Centralina Workforce Development Board (WDB) Transition Committee <br />meeting at Mitchell CC on October 30. Developed plan for WDB transition and outlined <br />action steps/goals for the next 2 years. <br /> <br />Participated in "Learning Organizations - A Quality Leadership Conference" in Durham on <br />October 24. Sponsored by Duke Power, Nortel, Duke University, etc. <br /> <br /> <br />
