CABARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS

PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, the National Association of Social Workers has recognized March as social
work month and, because of the deep concern we have as a society for the rise of crime
and violence, has adopted as its theme: Stop Violence with Justice for All;

WHEREAS, professional social workers work on the front lines of human service delivery
to help families and individuals develop skills to lead productive and satisfying
lives;

WHEREAS, professional social workers see first-hand the challenges families and
individuals face to meet their responsibilities;

WHEREAS, professional social workers recognize that any environment, whether it
contains physical violence, emotional or psychological abuse, or discrimination,
weakens the basic right of every individual to live with dignity;

WHEREAS, professional social workers know that pervasive violence causes physical,
emotional or psychological suffering and impedes individual growth and development;

WHEREAS, the social work professional works concurrently to help families through
community, institutional, and public policy initiatives;

NOW, THEREFORE, in recognition of professional social workers and all that they do in
helping families and individuals move beyond impediments to a life of accomplishment,
dignity, and purpose I, Jeffrey L. Barnhart, Chairman of the Cabarrus County Board of
Commissioners, proclaim the month of March, 1994, as Professional Social Worker Month,
and call upon members of the community to join with the social work profession in
support of appropriate programs, ceremonies, and activities designed to achieve its
goals.

This the seventh day of March nineteen hundred and ninety-four.

Jeffrey L.
