E&T is jointly
administered by the Cabarms:County Department of Social Services (DSS) and the
Concord office of the Employment Security Commission (ESC). Fifty-eight counties
participated in E&T during 1993. E&T is a program designed to help food stamp
recipients find employment (through activities coordinated by the ESC) and/or participate
in education and training activities (through community colleges, volunteer literacy
programs, JTPA, and other training agencies) that will help them become j ob ready.

The county exceeded the state goal in the area of assessments (a review by the ESC of
employment, education and training needs of each E&T participant and the establishment
of an employment goal) of individuals referred by the DSS. The percentage of
participants assessed in Cabarrus County exceeded the state average.

The county also exceeded the state goal for the number of E&T participants who
entered employment. The ESC reported that 102 participants entered employment during
the year. This exceeded the state average for entered employment for E&T programs the
same size as Cabarrus County.
