HOME PROGRAM

The N.C. Housing Finance Agency is accepting applications through July 22, 1994 for
Single Family Residential Repair projects. The maximum available is $400,000 per
application from the $4,000,000 statewide pot.

Home repairs can average no more than $25,000 per home, including lead based paint
remediation. The project staff envisions is aimed at elderly and/or handicapped home
owners who are low income. Proposed repairs include roof replacement, rewiring and
plumbing, installation of bathrooms (we have homes that have no bathroom), floor
repairs, installation of water heaters, insulation, window and door replacement, and vinyl
siding.

There is no local match but the State is aware of jurisdictiOns that can afford to put
money into their projects to make them go further. We suggest a local match of $15,000
to be added to the proposed $200,000 project.

We were able to rehabilitate 20 homes with the last HOME project the County was
involved in. At this time we are receiving calls on a weekly basis from elderly low
income home owners who have some pretty bad problems with their homes. In many
cases their abi!i~ to remain in the homes is in jeopardy because of the condition of the
home.
