Cabarrus County Health Department

7lJ C'a&~zrrus .,ivey*ur W. * P.O. Box 1149 · Concord..V. C', 2802~ . 1149 · Area Code 704/756-~12I
William F. Pilkington, D'ca~th l)ireccor

MEMORANDUM

TO: Fred Pilkington, Health Director

FROM: Cindy Walker,'Allied Health Director

DATE: September 29,1994

SUBJECT: Justification for New Position

The Cabarrus County WIC Program has recently boon granted an increase in
monthly caseload from 1666 to 1750 with a subsequent increase in funding of
$9526.00. Because of the increasing numbers of participants being served on
a monthly basis, I am requesting a part-time (15 hours per week) Medical
Office Assistant. This person would perform the necessary blood test
(hemoglobin) and weigh and measure the participants in order to certify or
reeertify them for the WIC Program. At the present time the increase in
monthly certifications, recertifications, and assessments has overloaded the
existing health department staff in the laboratory.

Because of the versatility of this position, this person could also plot growth
charts, make appointments, follow up on missed appointments, and issue food
vouchers. This would greatly assist the WIC clerical staff which will soon be
short staffed due to ma[ernity leave for one of its workers.
