PROCLAMATION <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia; <br /> and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. King was an ordained minister and a main leader of the civil rights <br /> movement in the United States during the 1950's and 1960's; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Dr. King was awarded the 1964 Nobel Peace Prize for leading nonviolent civil <br /> rights demonstrations; and <br /> <br />Dr. King, along with several other black ministers, founded the Southern <br />Christian Leadership Conference in 1957 to expand the nonviolent movement <br />against racism and discrimination; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, January 15, 1995, marks the ninth observance of the birthday of Dr. King as <br /> a national holiday; and <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, I, Jeffrey L. Barnhart, Chairman of the Cabarrus County Board <br />of Commissioners, do hereby proclaim January 15, 1995 as Martin Luther King, Jr. Day in <br />Cabarrus County and urge all citizens to join in the activities planned in celebration of this <br />event. <br /> <br />This the 19th day of December, 1994. <br /> <br />Jeffrey L.
