With the call load constantly increasing, we began considering
getting out of the convalescent transfer business so we could
concentrate strictly on emergencies. In November 1991 this came
true. Char-Meck Ambulance Service received a franchise to handle
the non-emergency calls in Cabarrus County.

In 1992 we also changed the look of our ambulances. Getting
away from the standard orange and white, we changed to a unique red
and white paint scheme. We dressed them up a little and are really
proud of them. Also in 1992 the enhanced 911 system became
operational. During 1992 the call load had risen to almost 8000
calls annually.

So now it's May 1993, and we're almost twenty years old.
We've experienced a lot of growth, expansion, and tolerated many
changes, some of which were not welcome initially. But in a
constantly changing world, we must accept change in order to grow,
prosper~ and survive. By the end of this month, every full-time
employee of Cabarrus EMS will be at the Paramedic level. I'm not
aware of any other service in North Carolina that has 100% staff of
Paramedics. Also every employee is trained in Basic Trauma Life
Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advance Life
Support, which is highly commendable. The citizens of this County
are fortunate to have such a group of highly trained professionals.

As we go into the Twenty-first Century, the field of pre-
hospital emergency care looks very promising. Many new and
advanced life saving techniques will be available. Advanced Life
Support equipment is constantly being improved.

And as we look to the future, we shall continue to constantly
strive to upgrade and improve our service. Our goal as always is
to continue to provide the citizens of Cabarrus County, the best
possible care and equipment that is available.

Respectfully submitted by Ron Harwood
EMT/Paramedic Supervisor
Cabarrus County EMS since September 15,

1973
