CABARRUS COUNTY FIRE CHIEFS ASSOCIATION

April 7, 1993

Ms. Donna R. Searcy, Secretary
Federal Communications Commission
1919 M Street N.W. - Room 222
Washington, DC 20554
Re: PR Docket No. 92-235

Dear Ms. Searcy:

The Cabarrus County Chief's Association would like to go on
record to oppose the rule change to require all radios in the 150
MHZ range to have a closer tolerance level. This action would
cost the public agencies a great deal of money. It would cause
wide spread problems both for paid and volunteer departments
across the board.

This organization sees this move both too costly and very poorly
timed for the Fire Service, and EMS organizations to over come
without great expense and difficulty. Just when many departments
are beginning to overcome some of the federal regulations coming
from OSHA then the FCC decides to get into the act and cause
wide spread radio replacement.

The tolerance level reduction that will increase the level of
channels available will also cause wide spread interference if
certain frequencies are issued within the area of 30 kilohertz to
a certain frequency.

There is enough interference on the present frequencies without
closing the gape on the MHZ range. By decreasing the range
wide spread problems would occur for the Emergency Services
Field. We hope the FCC will look strongly at other areas to
solve the problem of not enough frequencies.Instead of causing
other problems on the present system.

Respectfully submitted,

Cabarrus~County Fire Chiefs Association
Harvey Morris, President
745 Cabarrus Ave. West
Concord, N.C. 28025

jla

cc: Robert M.
