[NOTE: The material on the following pages is for information proposes only <br /> and is not 't'o be adopted as patl of the Fire Code.] <br /> <br /> INTROI)UCTION OF NFPA 704 <br />IIAZARDOUS MATERIAL MARKING SYSTEM <br /> <br /> In accordance with Chapter 22 of the State Fire Code entitled Hazardous <br />Chemlcals, the National Fire Protection Association 704 Marking System will be <br />implemented. <br /> <br /> This system is intended to provide basic information to firefighting, etnergency, <br />and other personnel, enabling them to more easily decide whether to evacuate the area <br />or to commence emergency control procedures. It is also intended to provide information <br />to assist in selecting firefighting tactics and emergency procedures. <br /> <br /> It addresses the Heallh, Flanimabilily, Reactivity and Special Conditions that may <br />be present during material handling, fire conditions, spills, or shnilar emergencies. <br /> <br /> The 704 system provides a simple, readily recognized, easily understood system <br />of markings that provide general information: ..,.. <br /> <br />a) <br /> <br />lo provide an appropriate signal or alert and on-the-spot information to <br />safeguard the lives of both public and private emergency response <br />personnel; <br /> <br />b) <br /> <br />to assist in planning for effective fire and emergency control operations, <br />including clean-up; <br /> <br />c) <br /> <br />lo assist all designaled response personnel, engineers, plant and safety <br />personnel in evaluating hazards. <br /> <br /> <br />
