Box 707
Concord, NC 28026

Dear Mrs. Carpenter:

The Cabarrus County Board of Education met on June 18, 1993, and passed a three-
tiered plan (a copy is enclosed) calling for a bond referendum in November, 1993, to
meet the facilities needs in Cabarrus County Schools and Kannapolis City Schools in
the amount of $81,091,000 (66.130 for Cabarrus County Schools and 14.961 for
Kannapolis City Schools). This plan has been the subject of much collaborative effort
among the two school systems, the County Commissioners, some one hundred
seventy parents and over forty business leaders. I am pleased to report virtually one
hundred percent support (one Board of Education member and one member of the
business community were opposed) for this plan among all of these participants.

Please accept this letter as our request for the Cabarrus County Board of
Commissioners to approve the three-tiered plan and place it on the ballot in
November, 1993.

Thank you for your continued efforts to improve the quality of education in Cabarrus
County. Your support in providing facilities for this shared interest is appreciated.

Sincerely, //~/
Superintendent

DMF:jmt

Enclosure (1)

An Equal Opportunity
Affirmative Action
Employer
