Cabarrus County Health Department

715 C~bar'rus Avenue W. , P.O. Box 1149 * Concord, .51. C. 28026 - I149 · Area Code 704/786-8121
William F. Pilkington, fIealth Director

MEMORANDUM

TO:

FROM:

Fred Pilkington

Cindy Walker, Allied Health Director~,'~''\

DATE: January 10, 1992

SUBJECT: Justification for New Position

The Cabarrus County WIC Program has recently been granted an increase
in case load from 1,228 to 1,378, with a subsequent increase in funding
of $7,335.00. Because of the increase of 150 participants monthly, I
am requesting a parttime Nutritionist I. This person would help with
the additional nutritional assessments, counseling, and education of
those pregnant and post-partum women, infants, and children who may be
eligible for the WIC Program.

Increasing the rate and duration of breastfeeding is a national, state,
and local goal of the WIC Program. With this new position, more emphasis
could be placed on increasing the number of women who breastfeed and
appropriate follow-up could increase the duration of the breastfeeding.

In a few months, one of the WIC nutritionists will be going on maternity
leave. This new position would also help fill in during the other
nutritionist's absence.

CW:bs

Equa! O?portunity/Affirma~iv¢ Action Employer
