Limiting the sale, rental or occupancy of dwellings which <br />a religious organization owns or operates for other than a <br />commercial purpose to persons of the same religion, if <br />membership in that religion is not restricted, on account <br />of race, color, or national origin; <br /> <br />Limiting to its own members the rental or occupancy of <br />lodgings which a private club owns or operates for other <br />than a commercial purpose. <br /> <br />HOW THE FAIR HOUSING LAW IS ENFORCED <br /> <br />Title VIII provides three ways of obtaining compliance:* <br /> <br />1. Complaints can be sent to HUD - Discriminary acts <br /> covered by the Fair Housing Law can be reported to: <br /> <br /> Fair Housing <br />Dept. of Housing and Urban Development <br /> Washington,DC 20410 <br /> <br /> Fair Housing <br />Dept. of Housing and Urban development <br /> Richard B. Russell Building <br /> 75 Spring Street, SW <br /> Atlanta, GA. 30303 <br /> Telephone (312) 353-7776 <br /> <br />Complaints may be ~ritten in letter form or on a complaint <br />form available from HUD. Complaints should be notarized and <br />sent to HUD within 180 days of the alleged discriminatory act. <br /> <br />2. Court action by individual - A person may take a complaint <br /> directly to the US District Court or State or local court <br /> under Section 812, within 180 days of the alleged <br /> discriminatory act. <br /> <br />3. Court action by the Attorney General - Information about <br /> possible discrimination in housing may also be brought to <br /> the attention of the Attorney General. If there is a pattern <br /> of practice of resistance to full enjoyment of rights granted <br /> under Title VIII, or if a group or persons has been denied <br /> such rights and the denial raises an issue of general importance <br /> the Attorney General may bring court action to ensure full enjoy- <br /> ment of the rights granted by Title VIII. <br /> <br />*In addition to the above, the North Carolina Human Relations Council <br />has been established as the State Agency to investigate discrimination <br />complaints in North Carolina pursuant to the North Carolina Fair Housing <br />Act. The County of Cabarrus will assist individuals having complaints in <br />filing an official written housing discrimination complaint with the <br />Council and also assist the Council in their investigation of the <br />complaint. <br /> <br /> <br />
