ATTKISSON <br />DIRECTOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />APRIL 9, 1992 <br /> <br />SUBJECT: AMBULANCE RATE INCREASES <br /> <br /> Per your request, please find attached information <br />relevant to Ambulance Rate increases for fiscal year 1992-93. <br /> <br /> Attachment 1, a Comparison of Rates Chart, compares <br />ambulance charges in the seven (7) county Region F EMS <br />Council. Included are charges for Basic Life Support (BLS) <br />and Advanced Life Support (ALS) care, out-of-county mileage, <br />oxygen and additional equipment used. <br /> <br /> Attachment 2 is a six month average cost for ambulance <br />service in Cabarrus County. Shown are the number of trips <br />plus the cost for both BLS and ALS care. <br /> <br /> As you can see from Attachment 1, basic ambulance <br />charges in the region range from $75.00 (Union County) to <br />$194.00 (Mecklenburg County.) ALS transport cost range from <br />a low of $100.00 (Cabarrus County) to a high of $285.00 <br />(Mecklenburg County.) Out-of-county mileage charges range <br />from a $1.75 per mile to $3.00 per mile and oxygen ranges <br />from $7.00 (Cabarrus County) to $15.00. Four of the seven <br />counties in the region have additional equipment charges <br />which vary per call depending upon equipment used. <br /> <br /> Attachment 2 shows a total of 2,340 ambulance trips with <br />an average BLS charge of $84.12 and ALS charge of $123.89. <br />Included in the total charge are oxygen or other medical <br />equipment used and charged to the patient.
