ICABARI IIS COUIV I

May 18, 1992

Tol Board of Commissioners
From= Blair Bennett, Finance Director ~/~
Subjects Fleet Policy

I presented the fleet policy to the Board of Commissioners at the April 20,
1992 meeting. At that time the Board asked for more information relating to the
impact of implementing their policy effective July 1, 1992. Attached please find
a copy of the vehicle master list which indicates the number of vehicles/trailers
assigned to each department. I have summarized this by department as follows:

Cars Trucks Trailers Vans/buses
Health 10 13 I 1
Recreation 5 7 6
Senior Services 4 2 3
Social Services 8
weatherization i 1
Sheriff 39 3 2
Animal Shelter 5
Emergency Services 1
Fire Marshall 1
W & S District i 8 2
Planning 1
Service Garage 2 1
General Servies 4 4
Library (Bookmobile) 1
Ambulance 2 8
Grand Total 77 54 9 7

In addition to these county owned vehicles the service garage maintains
five (5) sheriff department vehicles, one (1) owned by the Hospital, two (2)
owned by Mount Pleasant, and two (2) owned by Harrisburg. There are also six (6)
vans operated by C.T.S. that are titled to the State of North Carolina.

I have highlighted in the vehicle master list the six (6) cars that now
have mileage in excess of 150,000 miles. One (1) is in the Health Department, one
(1) in Parks and Recreation, two (2) in Senior Services, and one (1) in
weatherization.

The County Manager has recommended the purchase of fourteen (14) new cars
for the sheriff's department in the 1992/93 Budget. I believe that this fleet
policy can be implemented effective beginning July 1, 1992 without any additional
cost for purchase of new vehicles other than the current recommendation by the
County Manager.

Finance Depa~rnent

P.O.
