WILLIAM G. HAMBY, JR.
ATTORNEY At LAW
45 CHURCH STREET. S. E.

P.O. BOX 1732

CONCORD. NORTH CAROLINA 28026-1732

(704) 782-33~5

June 22, 1992

Mr. John V. Witherspoon
Cabarrus County Manager
Post office Box 707
Concord, North Carolina

28025

Re: Piedmont Area Mental Health Authority Board Appointment

Dear John:

It is with regret that I must inform you that Dr. Robert
Surratt, who has served on the Piedmont Area Mental Health Board
since 1984, is ineligible for reappointment. I hope that you
will send a letter to him from Carolyn Carpenter, as the County
Commission Chair, thanking him for his service on the Board.

Further, I have appointed Dr. Vincent Arey to serve in the
slot being vacated by Dr. Surratt. The slot must be filled by a
physician, and Dr. Arey will be an excellent Board member. He is
familiar with the area program. His late wife, Mrs. Lu Arey, was
an outstanding Board member in the 1980's.

It is certainly an honor for us that Dr. Arey has agreed to
serve on this Board. With his many commitments to community
service, we welcome his valuable counsel in the matters which we
will face in the coming years.

William G.

WGH/bh

cc: Area Director's office
