13 <br /> <br /> (4) Do~ Fighting. No person, firm, corporation, organization, or <br /> <br /> department shall possess or harbor or maintain care or custody of any <br /> dog for the purpose of dog fighting, or train, torment, badger, bait <br /> or use any dog for the purpose of causing or encouraging the dog to <br /> attack human beings or domestic animals. <br /> <br /> (5) Insurance. Owners of vicious dogs must within thirty (30) days of <br /> the effective date of this ordinance provide proof to the Cabarrus <br /> County Health Director of public liability insurance in the amount of <br /> at least $100,000, insuring the owner for any personal injuries <br /> inflicted by his or her ~i~.f~r~ dog. <br /> <br /> (6) Any violation of Section 11, "Vicious Animals," shall result in the <br /> <br /> immediate seizure and humane destruction of the animal. <br /> <br />Section 12. Dangerous Animals. <br /> <br /> (1) It shall be unlawful for any person to own or in any way maintain or <br /> harbor any animal which is dangerous as defined in Section 4 (#10). <br /> <br /> (2) If the Director/Supervisor has determined that an animal is <br /> dangerous, then the Director/Supervisor shall notify the owner <br /> immediately in writing, if the owner is known and after reasonable <br /> efforts to (otherwise) notify the owner (have failed). The owner <br /> shall turn the animal over to the Department immediately after such <br /> notification. The Director/Supervisor shall have the authority to <br /> seize immediately an animal deemed dangerous. The Director/ <br /> Supervisor shall have the discretion to dispose of an animal in one <br /> (1) of only two (2) specific ways: <br /> a. By the humane destruction of the animal; or <br /> <br /> b. By giving the animal to an individual or an organization, subject <br /> to the protective and inspection conditions required by the <br /> <br /> <br />
