I IABAI US
~ORIH

October 14, 1992

To:

From:

Subject:

John Witherspoon, Cabarrus County Manager

Steve L. Little, Director 31~
Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department

"Christmas Toys For Dade County, Florida"

The Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department is in the
process of organizing a County-wide effort to encourage caring
people to donate Christmas toys for children of Dade County,
Florida. As you are aware, Hurricane Andrew completely destroyed
this area of the country. An example of this destruction is over
39,000 homes were leveled by the hurricane. Ms. Pat Eraso, the
Dade County, Florida Disaster Relief Coordinator told us that many
children in the Dade County area will not receive Christmas
presents due to their general lack of the bare necessities such as
water, housing, food, etc.

The Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department is
encouraging everyone to participate: churches, organizations,
clubs, cooperations, companies, families and individuals. The
proposed plans are to collect children's toys from a variety of
sites in the County from November 23 until December 13. Cabarrus
County Parks and Recreation Department will be a primary drop off
site and is also seeking other potential dropoff sites. Toys may
also be collected during Frank Liske Park's Christmas Special Event
"Holiday Highlites" on December 12 and 13. A donated freight
truck will deliver the presents to Dade County during the week of
December 14-18.

This program has the potential of making thousands of young
children very happy at this Christmas. If you need any additional
information, please feel free to contact me. Thank you for your
cooperation and support concerning this project.

Parks and Recreation Department

755 Cabarrus Avenue West · P.O.
