October 26, 1992

MEMORANDUM

TO:

FROM:

SUBJECT:

John Witherspoon, County Managfr/ :._.,~ ....
Jim Cook, social Services Direct6~-"[j
Budget Amendment for Child and Adult Day Care

The Department of Social Services has been allocated an additional
$110,991 in 100% State/Federal funding for child day care services and an
additional $11,760 in 87.5 percent State/Federal funding for adult day care
services for the current fiscal year.

I have attached a budget amendment request which would add this new
funding to the Department's budget. As revenues are involved, the Board
of Commissioners would need to consider this request.

The additional funding for child day care subsidies would permit us to
serve a minimum of 50 children for the remainder of the year. This
funding is needed as we currently have 78 children on the waiting list for
services.

The additional funding for adult day care services will enable us to
purchase care at the LIFE Center for five elderly and disabled adults for
the remainder of the year. We have identified individuals in the adult
protective services and in-home services caseloads who need this service.
(We have funded the 12.5 percent local match requirement of $1680 for this
funding using lapsed salary funds.)

I am asking that you schedule this for consideration by the Board as
soon as possible.

Please advise me of any additional information I may need to provide.

Thank you.

Department of Social Services

P.O. Box 668 ,, Concord, NC 28026-0668 * (704) 7B6-7141
