This idea is not new to North <br /> Carolina since we have celebrated County Government Week since 1986. <br /> <br /> In conjunction with National County Government Week, NACo has milled to each count), office a set <br /> of promotional materials for use during that week. That packet contains information on how to get <br /> started in developing a County Government Week celebration for your county, working with the news <br />media, having open houses, planning special school programs, involving community, adopting a <br /> the <br />proclamation and artwork you can use during that week. lfyottr count), did NOT get a packet, you <br />should contact Tom Goodman at the National Association of Counties, (202) 393-6226. <br /> <br /> What Your State Association is Doing <br /> <br />The N.C. Association of County Commissioners is fully ~pponing National County Government <br />Week and will b~ providing additional help for county governments in our state. Enclosed are several <br />items that you may find helpful: <br /> <br />· A revised speech that can be adapted for civic groups and clubs in ),our area. We encourage you to <br /> of tin'ce or four people who are willing to talk to groups during County Government <br /> develop <br /> group <br /> \Veek and to let local groups 'know that ~his is available. <br /> <br />* A list of activities that have been undertaken by Nor'& Carolina counties in the past. If you have <br /> questions about how an), of these activities were organized, please contact me about them. <br /> <br />· A list ofinfonnation that your coumy might want to be collecting for inclusion in a news media panket <br /> for new reporters that will be sent to you in March. These packets will already contain some helpful <br /> information for reporters from a national and storewide perspective, but additionalinformation on your <br /> coumy would make it especially useful. <br /> <br />. A cop)' of a sample proclamation that your count)' can <br /> <br />There are several other materials available to you for use during County Government Week: <br /> <br />. A 12-minute video produced by theN.C. Chy-County Management Association is a good.introduction <br /> to local government and is aimed at 6th-lhh graders.
