- ~ would like to have interview training; need to know what
are illegal and legal questions, how to develop questions to
find workers who will fit into the job.

- over the state, there a very few black paramedics; most
cannot or do not pass even the basic EM~ courses

- I can only say that we should never hire a minority just
to meet a "qUota." I feel there is prejudice in Cabarrus
County but not to the moint that a professional would not
hire the most qualified.

- I don't believe it's fair to hire m~DoNities just to equal
out the statistics. It should be based on each individual's
~ualifications

unouali~ied meODle of any race or sex does
The
hiring
of
contribute to poor morale and lack of cooperation. The
hiring of a certain race or sex just to fill qUotas is
counter productive if the person is ~ot gualified,

- Very few blacks or females seem to be interested in the
kind of work we~have to do for various reasons. Some of
these reasons are work hours, low pay, contact with
worst elements of our society, danger in work, and no set
hours which occurs from work demands placed on the
department.

- Opportunities should be equally available and minorities
~hould be assured they ~re welcome to apply, but no lowering
of standards should be done on their behalf.

- I believe that we need to be more alert to minorities, but
I also feel that ~ualificatio~s must be met.

- I have only received three applications from blacks; only
one returned for an interview and he had a criminal record.

- By increased training maybe some of the starting level
jobs would be made available by promoting from within.

- Our problem here is not having enough qualified applicants
to choose from. We need to advertise job openings more than
we do now and we Deed to p~rticipat~ in training program~
and career d~¥s ~t the local high schools and colleges to
make p~tentia~ workers more awaN~ of the benefits and
OnDortunities the county has to offer.

- Hiring professionals o~ly, I have found many min0ritie~
don't guali~y ~or my positions because of lack of required
experience.
