Nord~ Cmo~na 27611 ~G~mor April 29, 1991 ~e~[~. ~w.~,]u~ M~O~b~ Local Governments wit~risdiction in Suzface Water Supply Watersheds or~tected Areas Staff Recommendatiohs to t~ S~JECT: Envirommental Manag~ent Co~mission for Proposed Surface Water Supply Classifications As you are aware, the EnviroD~mental Kanag~ment co~ission {~C) must adept revised classifications for all of North Carolina's surface water s=pplies by January 1, 1992 in order meet the second statutory deadline m~dated by the Water Supply Watershed Protection Act [G.S. 214.5 or House Bill 156). Enclosed fo: your info:marion is a co~y of the proposed classifications for the State's water supplies aze being that by the Water Quality Section staff to the ~C. Staff will request pe~ission from the ~C at their May 9, ~991 meeting to take these proposed classifications to a series of p~lic hearings in Au~st 1991. Each water supply is being proposed to be classified at the highest level for which it ~alifies. The proposed classifications were based on existing land use data supplied by local gove:~ents and on State records pertaining to wastewa/er disdharges within the watershed. The ~estionnaizes were sent along with specific ~nst:uctions for providing explicit info~ation on existing development, including lands that had been platted or zoned.
