Box ?07 <br />Concord, NC 2802G-0707 <br /> <br />Dear Carolyn: <br /> <br /> The recently enacted American with Disabilities Act (ADA) <br />will have a profound impact on local government. How will ADA <br />change programs, services, and facilities in Cabarrus <br />"Signed into law on duly 2G, 1990 by President George Bush, this <br />Civil rights law has a clearly defined purpose. Congress and the <br />President intend the ADA to stop discrimination against people <br />with disabilities, and to enable the further independent growth of <br />such individuals by the guarantee of access to every critioal area <br />of American Life." <br /> <br /> The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires that local <br />governments and ether agencies consider three types of accommoda- <br />tions when an individual with a disability meets essential eligi- <br />bility standards. These three types of accommodations ape <br />fled: <br /> <br />(l) The agency should modify rules, policies, up practices to <br /> enable an individual's participate. <br />(2) The agenoy should remove architectural, transportation, <br /> communlcatlon's barriers, thereby enabling an individual's <br /> participation. <br />(3) The agency should provide auxiliar~ aids or services to enable <br /> an individual's participation. <br /> <br /> Par~ and R~reazion Depa~men! <br /> 755 Ca~n~ A~nue Wes! · P.O.
