MEMORANDUM

TO: Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
From: Gerald A. Newton, Planning, Zoning, and Building
Inspection Director and
Norris James, Building Inspector

Re: Amendment to building inspection ordinance
Date: November 12, 1991

Due to the change in North Carolina and Southern Building Code
rules and regulations, a change has been made in the code that
affects proper enforcement of the building code. This involves a
clause which required code violations of one project to be
corrected by a contractor before another permit could be issued.
The state Insurance Department recommends that Cabarrus County
adopt the revision which follows to our "Ordinance for Issuing
Permits and Prescribing Fees for Permits and Inspections for
Cabarrus County." This amendment will reduce paperwork and the
need to impose legal action against contractors who have not
complied with building codes and regulations.

Proposed Amemdment:

Add to Section 1. Number 4. No home owner or Contractor may obtain
a permit of any kind without first makinq all corrections of cod~
violations on previous permits.

Planning and Zoning Depa~ment
PO. gox 707 * Concord.
