Kannapol is for an area yet to be defined The basic request s to be a one planning and regulation of development in Rowan County, the City has already exercised the r pr ivi iege in Rowan. Only the powers being exercised by the City can be exercised ~n this area. Zoning and subdivision central is being annua ly contracted with Uenchmark Inc. , a private consultant serving 7 counties, clt~es and towns in the area. The original establishment of planning, zoning, and eub~lvislons and the framework ol the current regulations was done by the County when Kannapol s became incorporated in 3984. The law also states thai areas ol extraterritorial jut Isd~ct'ion are to bo determined by officially adopted plans of the area which detail its existing or projected urban development or ils reason tot critical concern. In other words, Kannapolls should have official plans for the area to ~ustify the request. There remain many ssues to thi~ request ~hlch should be resolved prior to the Board of Commissioners releasing an UnRnow~ area.
