GROb-P DISCUSSIONS <br /> <br />NEEDS OF *][7~E FRAIL ELDERLY <br /> <br /> Frail elderly are those individuals with two or more of the following <br /> functional imPairments: <br /> <br /> physical, health status is severely impaired whereas participant <br /> has a serious illness or disability which is painful, life threatening, <br /> or requires extensive medical treatment; <br /> <br /> mental health status Which severely interferes with judgment <br /> and decision making in everyday life; <br /> <br /> activities of daily living capacity are severely impaiked, the <br /> participant cannot perform routine tasks incidental to independent <br /> functioning; <br /> <br /> social resources are Unsatisfactory, help is never available; <br /> <br /> economic resources are severely inadequate, particiPant has no <br /> reserves, the homebound or institutionalized elderly who represent <br /> approximately 15% of the elderly population. <br /> <br />T~E MODERATELY ]~fPAIRED ELDERLY <br /> <br /> Moderately impaired elderly are those seniors who fall in between <br /> the frail/well spectrum and have the following functional impairments: <br /> <br /> physical health status is:limited, however barriers are overcome <br /> with services provided by human service agencies, medical agencies <br /> and social support systems; <br /> <br /> mental health status reflects ability to handle con~ou sense <br /> decisions but difficulty with major problems; <br /> <br /> activities of daily livin~ are performed for the most part independently, <br /> however certain activities require assistance, the individual <br /> is able to get through any single day with help. <br /> <br />THE WELL ELDERLY <br /> <br /> The well elderly population have no significant illness or disabilities <br /> either physical or mental. They will perform ADL's totally independent <br /> of others. Income is adequate and participant has reserves.
