Smith Reynolds Foundation Opportunities for Families Fund <br /> <br /> I am ~rriCing to request t/me on the agenda of the September 4 Board of <br />Comissioners meeting for a presentation and request concerning the Z. Smith Reynolds <br />Foundation Opportunities for Families Fund (OFF) grant program. <br /> <br /> Cooperative Christian Hlnistry first noticed news releases concerning the OFF <br />program and expressed interest through the Department of Social Services and County <br />Hanager's office that the County pursue this program. At its July 23 meeting, the <br />Social Services Board expressed its interest in the County's exploring this program. <br />Also on July 23, the Board of Commissioners authorized the County Hanager to indicate <br />to the Foundation the County's interest in the program. At the request of the County <br />Hanager, staff of the Department of Social Services has reviewed and assessed the <br />Foundation's request for proposal information. The Department has iovolved staff of <br />the United ~ay of Central Carolinas in this process. <br /> <br /> Attached ie an outline of the Department's review and recomendations regarding <br />the OFF program. <br /> <br /> In summary, the Department is requesting the Board of Co~issioners take the <br />following action: <br /> <br /> 1. Designate the Department of Social Services as the County's lead agency for <br /> administration of the OFF program. <br /> <br /> 2. Authorize the Department to submit to the Foundation by October 1 in behalf <br /> of the County a proposal for an OFF program planning grant. <br /> <br /> 3. Approve the Countyts engaging the United k'ay of Central Carolinas to <br /> facilitate the planning process and compile grant proposals, <br /> <br /> The Social Services Board at its August 27 meeting acted to endorse these <br />recommendations. On AuLmst 29 the Cabarrus County Advisory Board of United Way of <br />Central Carolinas approved this arrangement should the Board of Commissioners request <br />United ~ay involvement. <br /> <br /> Please advise me if I may provide more information. <br /> <br /> <br />
