Ruffin; <br /> <br /> In September of 1989, this region was awarded a Health Resources <br /> and Services Administration Grant to develop a plan to address <br /> AIDS and HIV disease. This grant, which was received through <br /> the Foundation For The Carolinas and is being administered by <br /> United Way of Central Carolinas, Inc. ,. established a Regional <br /> HIV Consortium composed of representatives of all 7-counties in <br /> this region. This Consortium has been diligent in it's work to <br /> identify the complex and multi-faceted issues of this tragic <br /> disease as they impact the people of our communities. <br /> <br /> As you may know, we have held town meetings in each county, <br /> distributed 3000 surveys to identify needs, conducted personal <br /> interviews with clients and patients, listened' f.o many <br /> presentations from professionals in many disciplines, and <br /> studied strategies to address AIDS that are used elsewhere to <br /> consider their applicability to our region. <br /> <br /> We would like to share with the County Commission the progress <br /> of our work thus far and hear your concerns and ideas as we move <br /> forward with the final "blue print" of our plan..
