August 28, 1990 <br /> <br /> RESOLUTION BY THE <br /> CABARRU$ - ROWAN PARK COMMISSION FOR <br /> THE GREENWAY DEVELOPMENT <br /> <br />Whereas, greenways are linear open space pa~ks that provide many <br />benefits to the region's passive and active pursuits of recreation; <br /> <br />Whereas, the following are among the socioeconomic benefits a <br /> <br /> L~near recreational a¢l~vilies, such as jogging, hiking, <br /> walking, end b~cycl lng; <br /> <br />(2~ Facilities for picnicking, fitness activities, nature study, <br /> and other family and individual activities that enrich the <br /> q~alily of life in the region; <br /> <br /> Proposed link between Bakers Creek Park and other exist~n9 <br /> public facilities such as Vii Isge Park, Cannon Memorial YMCA, <br /> Cannon Memorial Library, David Murdock Senior Center; <br /> <br />Whereas, the proposed greenway will be a joint project funded and <br />supported by Cabsrrus-Rowsn Park Commission, Cabarrus County Board <br />of Commissioners, Rowan County Board of Commissioners, City of <br />Kannspolis Council, Federal Land and Water Conservation funds, and <br />At lent ic American Proper tiesl <br /> <br /> Proposed project, estimated for $75,$00.00, includes a ten foot <br /> trail system, s fifty foot steel bridge, benches, tables, <br /> protective fencing, general grading end landscaping; <br /> <br />(2) The Federal Land and Water Conservation Funds (if approved) of <br /> fifty thousand dollars and the ability 1o match the land <br /> appraisal value will provide sixty-seven percent of the <br /> projected Greenwey Development Cost; <br /> <br />(3) Atlantic American Properties will donate spproximately nine <br /> acres to the Cabarrus-Rowan Park Commission for the <br /> construction of a Greenwey= <br /> <br />t4~ The remainin0 thirty-three percent of the Greenway Oevelopment <br /> Budget will be funded by the three supporting governmental <br /> bodies through the Cabarrua-Rowsn Park Commission Annual <br /> Budget: Rowan County's Share - $6,375.00~ Cabarrus County <br /> Share - $14,025.00, end City of Kennapolis Share - $5,100.00; <br /> <br />(.Si Immediate funding of S2,250.00 will be required for the <br /> pre-application of the Federal Land and Water Conservation Fund <br /> Giant. The following are percentages and amounts by <br /> governments= Cabarrus County (55%) - $1,237.00; Rowan County <br /> (25%) - $563.00; and City of Kannapoli$ (20%) - $450.00. These <br /> funds would be required for land appraisal cost and contract <br /> <br /> <br />
