I

THE' ~'~'~ ART ENRICHMENT PROGRA~I

~.~_i~-:~7. L~ Sponsored by Cabarrus Arts Council, Inc.

The Art Enrichment Program has been established for all
classrooms in Cabarrus County. Does your class receive this
invaluable enrichment? Originally designed for the elementary
level, this volunteer-staffed project is also a valuable asset to
middle and high school students, with emphasis on history and
foreign languages. Participating classrooms have biweekly visits
from a volunteer trained to make "looking at art" stimulating and
enjoyable through group discussion.- Verbalization and heightened
perception have proved to be important results of the activity.

Each grade level is encouraged to locate persons in the community
to staff this project. In seeking volunteers, the following
information should be helpful.
TIME REQUIREMENT: Volunteers contribute an average of
one hour biweekly from October - May, depending on the
schedule of visits they adopt--any ~mount of time is
.most appreciated an~ valuable. Attendance at the monthly
meetings held at the Historic Cabarrus Courthouse is not
mandatory, but can be extremely helpful in broadening the
volunteer's use of the materials provided. These meetings
last between one and one and one-half hours.

NATURE OF SERVICE: Volunteers serve one set of 3-5 c/ass-
rooms which they visit for 15-min. discussion periods. Two
or three-dimensioDal works of art are shared through a
systematic approach including description, analysis, inter-
pretation, and judgment. Reproductions may be requested to
follow a teacher's lesson plan.

MEETING DATES: Orientation, October 3, 10:00 a.m.
November 7, 700 Years of Art*
December 5, Pieter Brueghel
January 2, Comparison Study
February 6, Paintings of Great Spanish Masters*
March 6, Francisco Goya
April 3, Backgrounds of Modern Painting*
May l, Winslow ~omer

'There are 241 reproductions available for the 1990-91 school
year, all to be ohecked out as librar~ materials, sculpture will
be supplied in a carrying box with appropriate cushion material
and should be handled with great care[ Several carry satchels
are also available for two-dimension reproductions.

For more information, interested parties may call Chris Cole,
Director of the program, at 782-4492, or the Cabarrus Arts
Council office, 782-6610.

*Programs provided by the National Gallery of Art
