The role et the
school sites provides a vital key in the provision of recreational
opportunities for citizens of Cabarrus County. Cabsrrus County utilizes
tho school sites in a dual role a~ neighborhood and community parks.
Many school sites are adequate in size to serve both educational and
recreational needs. In addition, many sites are conveniently located
and already have some facilities for recreation. Most of the sites
provide recreation opportunities for each member o~ the family. They
should contain a playlet for small children, a ballfield with a 60-foot
diamond for softball and youth baseball, an open field for fall sport~,
an apparatus area for older children, and a multiple use slab for
basketball, volleyball, and similar court games.
