The department strives to meet <br /> these needs in two ma~or areas= facilities and programs. Facilities are de,eloped both <br /> by the county and with other community organizations through a matching grantls program. <br /> Programs are developed to meet tho needs that are usc being served by other l~cal agencies <br /> public or pFivate. Needs are identified through contact with various tndivfd~alo and <br /> groups in the community, sorveys~ and recent trends within the leisure service field % <br /> itself. The department has attempted to develop a well-balanced arts program for <br /> citizens of all ages with both visual and performing arts. The staff of the ~epartment, <br /> along with various part-time staff, volunteers, and participants, meet to evaluate and <br /> upgrade these services. Community Involveme~ Please describe your organizatioffs etIo~s to actively involve traditionally <br /> underserved audiences (racial and ethnic mlnorit,es, senior citizens, disabled <br /> persons, institutionalized persons, economically disadvantaged'persons and <br /> geographically isolated persons) in the following areas: board and staff <br /> development, program development, audience development and <br /> communic~tlons tpublications, publici~ etc.). <br /> Cabar:us County Parks and Recreation Department as a local government agency is <br /> an equal opportunity employer. Special events offered by the Cabarrus County Parks and <br /> Recreation Department are open to all citizens of Cabarrua County. Efforts are made via <br /> fliers, posters, and newspaper articles to involve and expose as many persons as possible. <br /> Hoot of these programs are offered at no'charge, or at least offer come facets which are <br /> free to the public. Plans are being made to send a special invitation to nursing homes <br /> and group homes. The facility to be used is accessible for wheelchairs. Since there will <br /> be no admission charged~ anyone could attend without concern about the cost. <br /> <br /> 6. Program Description Pleasegivea briefdescripliono(Ihecommunityprogram Iorwhich gouare <br /> requestJngassistance. <br /> In an effort to highlight the facilities at Frank Licks Par~ as well as to provide <br /> a regular opportunity to expose Cabarrus County citizens to a variety of activities, <br /> including performlng and visual arts, the Cabarrus County Parks and Recreation Department <br /> has planned a series of events called Sundae-in-the-Park. }fay will kick-off the series with <br /> plans co bring in Razz-Ma-Tazz from Greensboro, a touring song/dance ensemble which has <br /> performed in place~ around the world. This will be done in combination with an ice cream <br /> sundae party during the intermission. June will bring arts and games for kids with a <br /> sundae party. July ts planned as a heritage day to include a performance of "Liberty" by <br /> First Assembly Church choir, demonstrations of crafts such as quilting, candlemaking, <br /> weaving, etc. (as much as possible by local artists), and a sundae party. August will brin- <br /> a Wet 'n' Wild day for all ages to include games with water for all ages and a sundae party. <br /> Funds from the project pool will be used to offset the cost of. the May and June events <br /> (Razz-Ma-Tazz $700~ marketing $110, eup~lies $300; other expenses $200). <br /> <br /> <br />
