MEMORANDUM
Page 2
February 28, 1989
The Governor's expansion budget includes a request for State funds
directed at alleviating the impact of the depletion of the Federal
reserve for Title III of the Older Americans Act. Simply put, the
reserved Federal dollars have been spent and now it is time to seek
State dollars or cut services to older adults. Further, it should
be noted that the expansion budget funds, if approved, will only
'allow services to be maintained at about their current level, not
increased.
If this $3.4 million is not approved as an expansion budget item,
then services in your county will probably be reduced as outlined
below:

Current Estimated Federal Allocation
1988-89 Federal (1989-90)
Funded 'Allocation
County Agency Service (1988-89) 1st Qtr. We do not wish to create a
panic situation. By way of this memo, we are informing the
appropriate a~encies and organizations in your county that may be
affected by this shortfall. Steps are being taken to conserve
funds for the remainder of the current contract period for use
during the July through September quarter. We encourage you to
contact appropriate Legislators regarding the importance of the
expansion budget item for older adult services.

Please' let us know if you need additional information or
assistance.

SBA/cw

cc: FY'89 Contract Managers
Region F Aging Advisory Committee

SS.B
