HARRtNGTON (919) 787-96t 8 <br />SECRETARY April 7, 1989 <br /> <br /> MEMORANBUM <br /> <br /> TO: North Carolina Public Airport Sponsors <br /> FROM: Bruce Matthews, Manager of Aviation Development'-'~l~C}t4- <br /> <br /> SUBJECT: llearing Schedule for the Transportation Improvement <br /> Program <br /> <br /> As part of the formulation process for the Transportation Itaprove~ent <br /> Program, the Department of Transportation will hold a series of public <br /> hearings across North Carolina beginning April 25. It is tile intent of <br /> the Department that each local governmental unit, as well as citizens <br /> and organizations, be given the opportunity to tell tile decision makers <br /> directly what their needs are and to discnss any locally significant <br /> aspects of proposed projects. <br /> <br /> This year, we are encouraging airport Sponsors to take part in the <br /> hearing process. We believe this will accomplish at least three <br /> abjectives. First, it will allow you to fully explain your request to <br /> the Department, Second, it will give you an opportunity to assure <br /> other local public officials are aware of your airport needs. Third, <br /> it will assist the Department in developing a comprehensive TIP <br /> covering all modes of transportation. <br /> <br /> Attached you will find a schedule of the hearings and a map of North <br /> Caroliua's Highway Divisions. Since the TIP bearings are based upon <br /> Ilighway Divisions, you will need to double check to determine which <br /> meeting Is most appropriate for you to attend. The Division and <br /> Aeronautics Council plan to have representatives at each of tbe <br /> hearings. <br /> <br /> We look forward to your attendance at the hearings and hope yon will <br /> use them for the benefit of your airport.
