Box 707 Concord, NC 28025 Dear Mr. Ruffin: Included in our current monthly statement is a notice of rate changes which will go into effect on June 1, 1989. The monthly service rate for basic dable (32 channels) will in- crease from $13.50 to $14.75 per month~ At the same time, the monthly charge for volume and non-volume remote controls on additional sets will be reduced by 50~ (from $4.00 and $3.00 to $2.00 and $1.50 per month respectively). All other rates will remain unchanged. The increase in basic service is primarily a reflection of the rising costs of programming. ESPN alone instituted an increase of almost 30% in January and many of our other program services announced lesser increases. We pledge to provide the best value in cable. Our new basic rate is one of the lowest in the indastry. We pledge to keep it that way. The average rate for basic cable in North Carolina is $~5.50 for 28 channels. Nationally, the average ~s $17.30 for 28 channels. Working to keep costs in check and provide ~ore and better service is our mission - and we take that m~ssion seriously. We have added ~IN~, the new Turner Network Televislon service which will carry the National Basketball Association games next season, and BET, Black Entertainment Television to our lineup and converted a numker of other services to stereo while continuing to expand our service area. Although our franchise agreement stipulates a density requirement of 45 homes per linear mile, ~e are now extending service into areas with only 20 homes per mile, and have also substantially reduced the cost of elective construction below that limit.
