A RESOLUTION ENDORSINO A REFERENDUM TO BE HELD ON NOVEMBER ?, 1989 <br /> TO CONSIDER EXPANDINO THE CABARRUS COUNTY BOARD OF COMHISSIONERS <br /> FROH FIVE TO SEVEN MEMBERS <br /> <br /> ~IERF-AS, Senator J~mes C. Johnson~ Jr. o£ Cabarrus County has <br /> sponsored Senate Bill 643 before the Oeneral Assembly of North <br /> Carolina; and <br /> <br /> W]IEREAS, Senate Bill 643 is entitled "An Act To Expand The Size of <br /> The Board Of Commissioners Of Gabarrus County From Five to Seven <br /> Members, And To Provide That Five Of The Members Must Live In Certain <br /> Districts* But Ail Memhers Are To Be Elected At-Large"; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen of the City of Concord is ccmprised <br /> of seven members whereby one member of the Board of Aldermen shall be <br /> nominated and elected by all the voters of the City voting at-large and <br /> six members shall reside in and represent the wards of the City, but <br /> shall be nominated and elected by all the voters of the City voting <br /> at-large; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Board of Aldermen has reason to believe that this <br /> form of representation is responsible to the needs of the voters and is <br /> not an unmanageable number of elected representatives of the citizens <br /> from which to conduct the affairs of the City. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Aldermen of thc <br />City Of Concord, North Carolina that it fully endorses Senate Bill 643 <br />as introdoced hy Senator Johnson which calls for a referendum on <br />· November 7, 1989 in order to provide the voters of Cabarrus County the <br />privilege of deeldfng if the Cabarrus County Board of Ce~nissfoners <br />should be expanded from five to seven members and to provide that five <br />of the members mu~t live in certain districts, but all members are co <br />be elected at-large. <br /> <br /> Adopted this 13th day of April, 1989. <br /> <br /> BOARD OF ALDERMEN <br /> CITY OF CONCORD <br /> NORTH CAROLINA <br /> <br /> Bernie A.
