The certified estimate is <br />used exclusively for the purpose of distributing state-shared revenues to county <br />governments and uses municipal boundaries as of July l, 1989. It is flagged <br />with two asterisks (~) in the table below. The official estimate is used for <br />planning purposes and uses municipal boundaries as of July 1, 1988. It is <br />flagged with a single asterisk (*) in the table below. The July 1, 1988 total <br />county population estimate, which was used as a control in generating both of <br />these estimates, is also listed for reference. <br /> <br /> If you have questions or comments concerning this information, wish <br />assistance in interpreting either estimate, or would like clarification of the <br />methods used in preparing the estimates, please contact Ms. Li Chang, Ms. <br />Sharon Rains, or me (116 West Jones St., Raleigh, N.
