WILLIAM G. HAMBY, Jr.

AUgUSt 30, 1989

Michael Ruffin
CoUnty Manager
Post office Box 707
Concord, North Carolina 280Z6

RE: Cabarrus Bicentennial

Dear Hiker

Helen Arthur, who writes for the Cabarrus Neighbors, and who
writes historical articles regarding Cabarrus County history, has
suggested that our Board appoint a Cabarrus County Bicenter~ial
Commission to prepare for activities and projects relating to the
1992 Bicentennial of the county. It is my expectation that these
activities should be largely privately funded, and a commission
needs to begin early to begin fundraising and planning efforts.

Although the Bicentennial is still two years away, there is
much to be done before that time rolls around. The Cannon
library in Concord has already begun the development of a local
history section of the library, and this Bicentern%ial can help
focus attention on preserving early county history.

Perhaps we could put this on the agenda for di=cussion at
one of our October meetings to see if the Board might have some
ideas about the Bicentennial and might Consider crea=ing such a
commission.

Sincerely,
~i~l m G.
