MECKLENBURG COUNTY
Board of County Commissioners

November 27, 1987

The Honorable Jam~s W. Lentz
Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners
P. O. Box 664
Concord, North Carolina 28025

Dear James:

This is to officially inform you that the Carolinas Counties Coalition
Conference will be Wednesday, March 9, 1988. The one-day conference will be
held at the elegant new Speedway Club, the Charlotte Motor Speedway in
Cabarrus County. Please mark this date on your calendar.

Last w~ek ~ry Barry o~ Lancaster County and Peggy Upchurch of York County,
and I met to review plans for the conferen~ce. Per our meeting, it appears the
response from all of you has been positive, and we're excited about that.

To get things underway, we've enclosed a copy of the conference agenda and the
topic assignment sheet. Those of you who returned your selection sheet
received either ycur first or second topic choice. If you are uncomfortable
with your assigned topic and would prefer another, contact the appropriate
county to negotiate a ~itch. In planning your topic presentation feel free
to seek any available resources necessary, frcm within or outside of your
County. Presentations should be designed so that they give a general overvi~
of the topic including but not li~ted to examples of ~3dngs being done by

In the last correspondence we mentioned that a registration fee would be
charged. The amount of that registration still has not been determined. We
also asked you to contact your local Chamber for financial support. To cover
the cost of this conference, ~'re asking each county to contribute a total of
$1,000.00. This $1,000.00 can be of County dollars and/or Chamber dollars or
from any source you deem appropriate.

We also plan to ask hanks with establishments in North Carolina and South
Carolina to assist us financially by underwriting our reception. This would
help keep the registration fee to a minimum or even eliminate the need for a
fee, esF~cially if each County contributes $1,000.00. Please notify your
Boards of this and take whatever steps are appropriate.

720 East Fourth Street ,, P.O. Box 31787 - Charlotte.
