/ CABARRUS COUNTY
~ R.~,3, PLANNING DEPARTS, lENT
· ? · Post office Box 707
· ~?~:~ CONCORD, NORTH CAROLIN^ 28025

MEMORANDUM

TO: Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners

FROM: Mike Byrd/Planning Department

DATE: January 18, 1988

SUBJECT: Quay Road/Old Holland Road Names

Attached is a letter from Mr. Carl Spradley. The letter goes into detail explaining
the road name problems with Quay/Old Holland Road.

Currently the entrance to these roads in Mecklenburg County (2 roads, same name on
both sides of 1-85, not crossing our 1-85) have street signs showing Quay Road in
Mecklenburg County. After going approximately 500' down either road, at the
Cabarrus County line, the road name changes to Old Holland Road.

This has caused problems with emergency vehicles, UPS, mail, etc. Though the Old
Holland Road street sign is uD at the county line, the turn onto this road shows
the Mecklenburg County sign saying Quay Road.

Another problem is there is also a Quay Road off Robinson Church Road south of
Harrisburg, so calling the roads mentioned above Quay Road would result in
duplicate road names.

Hopefully, this will provid~ a explanation of the problem discussed in the
attached letter,

Attachment
