North Carolina 27611 <br /> Telephone 919-733-3141 <br /> <br /> I.% Description of PrOposed Action <br /> <br /> Bridge No. 92 is tO be replaced near (slightly west of) <br />its present location as show~ by Alternate 2B in Figure 4D. <br />The new structure will provide five travel lanes on US 601 <br />and will accommodate an ultimate four-lane divided facility <br />underneath on NC 49. <br /> <br /> The structure is to be built in half sections to allow <br />traffic to be maintained on the existing bridge during <br />construction. It will be necessary to raise the grad.e of <br />the existing roadway and approaches 2 to 3 feet in order to <br />provide adequate vertical clearance underneath on NC 49. <br /> <br /> Estimated 'cost of the project is $1,228,000. <br /> <br /> II. Existing Conditions: <br /> <br /> US 601 is classified as an urban principal arterial route <br />in the 1980 Functional Classification System and is part of <br />the Federal-Aid System (FAU-5288). US 601 is also designated <br />as a major thoroughfare in the Kanlacon Thoroughfare Plan <br />(see Figure 6). In the studied area, US 601 connects Concord <br />with outlying areas to the south. <br /> <br /> <br />
